Leave a gift in your will
For over 20 years the Belper North Mill Trust (BNMT), an independent charity, predominately run by volunteers, has promoted and interpreted the story of the industrial heritage of the Derwent Valley, with a particular reference to Belper North Mill. We operated an accredited museum and visitor centre on the site from 1998 until 2022, attracting visitors from across the world. Unfortunately this museum has now closed as Borough and Town Council funding was withdrawn.
The Derwent Valley Mills (in ‘the valley that changed the world’) are the birthplace of the factory system. It was for this reason that they were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2001.
We are proud of our county’s industrial heritage and want to ensure that future generations learn about the innovative entrepreneurs who helped to shape the modern world and the communities of workers who made this possible.
We have received funding in the past from Amber Valley Borough Council and Belper Town Council and a number of other grant givers as well as generating funds from museum entrance fees and the small on-site shop. The income stream following the closure of the museum is now reliant on heritage walks and tours and delivery of the educational programme. All of the money given to the Trust is used in supporting our charitable aims.
You can help to share this story by leaving a bequest to the Belper North Mill Trust in your will. Your solicitor can advise on the best way to do this, whether you are making your first will, or updating your existing instructions.
Thank you for considering leaving the Belper North Mill Trust a gift in your will. Your contribution, big or small, is greatly appreciated.
Preparing for the future
If you die without making a will, the law determines how your estate is divided. This can cause great uncertainty and distress for everyone concerned, and can take time to resolve.
When you make a will, you will be secure in the knowledge that your wishes will be carried out. All charitable donations are deducted from the value of your estate before the calculation of inheritance tax, reducing any inheritance tax liability.
A solicitor can advise as to the best solution for your circumstances and will help you draw up an appropriate document. You will need the following information if you wish to include us in your will;
